What’s the next step?

For some people losing weight is very easy, for others it seems impossible. In order to lose weight you need to decide on an action plan and it would be a good idea to start a diary. Here are some useful tips for setting up an action plan;

What should I be eating and what should I avoid?

For many people weight loss can be achieved by changing the types of food that they eat. Here is some useful dietary advice:-

  • Look at your regular food purchases and see if you can by products which are lower in fat content.
  • Try preparing your own foods rather than pre-prepared meals which may contain a lot of
       saturated fats and salt
  • Try and reduce your portion sizes
  • Drink plenty of fluids such as squashes (preferably sugar free!)
  • What about exercise?

    It doesn’t have to be membership at the local gym or swimming every day! Whilst a regular exercise programme may be a great idea it’s not always practical. Look at some of the activities you do at work.

  • Use the stairs not the lift!
  • Walk to the shops rather than take the car.
  • Go for a walk at lunch time rather than sitting around
  • What lifestyle changes?

    So, you’ve come home from work and on the table is supper. After eating you put the things in the dishwasher and settle down in front of the television or PC. After a little while you get the munchies! Maybe a biscuit or perhaps some chocolate, an then some more!

  • Drink plenty , have a drink (squash, tea coffee) rather than a chocolate
  • Keep yourself occupied, it’s easy to eat out of boredom
  • See if you can find something to occupy you in the evenings, how about some exercise such as
       swimming or even the gym.
  • Avoid snacking especially late at night
  • How do I keep going?

    It’s hard, everywhere you look food is being advertised, on television , in magazines, you just can’t avoid it! What you need is some motivational support!

    What results can I expect?

    If you are starting a weight management programme be realistic, rapid weight loss is neither healthy or safe, in fact it can be dangerous.

    Do I have to do this alone?

    No , some people prefer support groups such as Weight Watchers or Slimming World, you may prefer a more one to one approach from one of our affiliated pharmacies. These can offer you a Weight Management Programme which they will monitor for you.
