Who can use this service?

This service is available to women aged over 18 years who wish to purchase emergency hormonal contraception also known as the 'morning after' pill.This service is not recommended for women requiring treatment within the 72 hour time frame after unprotected sex as postage times cannot be guaranteed.

How the service works

The following information is provided for you to determine whether EHC is suitable for you.If the online GP decides it is appropriate to supply our service will allow you to purchase one pack which you may use if and when you require EHC.(Whilst expiry dates vary , in general this product has a 2-3 year expiry).

When to use Emergency Hormonal Contraception?

EHC using Levonelle prevents about 84% of expected pregnancies when it is taken within 72 hours (3 days) of unprotected sex.It will not prevent a pregnancy in every instance, but the tablet is more effective the sooner after unprotected sex it is taken (it is better to take within 12 hours rather than to delay to the third day).

Levonelle works by stopping a pregnancy before it establishes. It does not work if you are already pregnant. You can use Levonelle at any time during your menstrual cycle but NOT if your period is late.

Do not use Levonelle if:

  • You have an allergy to any of the ingredients (you can see these in the further information section).
  • You have a disease of the small bowel which interferes with digestion
  • You have severe liver problems
  • You are taking other medicines which may react with Levonelle (see further details)
  • You think you may already be pregnant
