WHAT IS A MEDICINES USE REVIEW (MUR)?

An MUR is your opportunity to discuss any issues you may have with your medication. There may be things you want to suggest, changes or worries that are bothering you. The service is FREE and open to everyone registered with this pharmacy.

WHO IS IT WITH?

The MUR is arranged with one of our qualified pharmacists who you will be able to talk openly with and discuss questions or worries you may have. A note will be made of the results of your MUR which will be passed to your doctor.

WHO CAN HAVE AN MUR?

An MUR is designed for patients who have been registered with this pharmacy for at least 3 months. If you are not registered then register now:

You should consider having an MUR if :

a) You are over 75
b) You are regularly taking prescription medicines
c) You are taking medicine for long term illnesses (such as arthritis, diabetes or epilepsy).
d) You are taking hospital prescribed medicines or have recently come out of hospital.
e) You have had major changes to your medication.

WHERE WILL I HAVE MY MUR?

It is important that our pharmacists know as much about you and your medicines as possible. Depending on where you live a home visit may be possible. If not a phone consultation will be carried out. This should take between 20 to 30 minutes.

HOW DO I ARRANGE FOR AN MUR?

Fill in the chart below with as much information as you can. If you don't know something leave it blank, our pharmacists will help you complete the table at the review. Don't forget to include any medicines, vitamins or supplements you purchase on a regular basis. The MUR is not just about tablets, include any creams, ointments, inhalers or other medical devices you regularly use.

When our pharmacist receive you request for an MUR you will be notified whether a visit or phone consultation will be possible. We will then ask you to confirm a convenient time.

WHAT QUESTIONS SHOULD I ASK AT MY MUR?

You can ask anything about medicines and taking them. These reviews are not usually the place to talk about aspects of the condition of your health. Some examples of questions are listed below.

1) What does this medication do?
2) Could I take a different , better medication?
3) How long do I need to take this medication?
4) Do I really need to take all these medicines?
5) Is there anything to help me take medicines?
6) Can I have easy open tops for my medication?
7) I have problems swallowing my tablets
8) I have problems remembering to take tablets
9) I have problems with taking different types of tablets
10) I have problems with side effects from one or more medicines
11) I am experiencing general problems with my medication.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTERWARDS?

At the end of your MUR our pharmacist will note any changes or recommendations that you agree with. This information will be passed to your doctor. You will also receive a copy of the MUR to take to your doctor. You may wish to have another MUR later on, this can be discussed and arranged with you by our pharmacists.
