Preparing

What is a medicines audit?
A medicines audit is a complete review of medication
procedures and policies from the ordering of medication
,the supply and storage of medication through to
the removal of old medication.

The table is not exhaustive, but contains essential
elements for audit. Each item should be regularly
checked to ensure compliance. It is important that
there are agreed procedures for ordering both monthly
medication and acute prescriptions. With new waste
regulations (see below) it is important that the
correct documentation is used and medication is
sorted appropriately.
